The 1934 Minneapolis teamster general strike was an important development not only for the workers of Minneapolis but also for Teamster and union organizing throughout the mid-west.
The strike despite attacks by police, bosses and the use of the National Guard was successful in defending the union. The Minneapolis Teamster strike and it’s connection today with the Minneapolis mobilizations and mass labor community action against the ICE attacks and murders is very relevant today.
The connection between the struggles in the 1930’s with general strikes and the fight today against the ICE fascist attacks, union busting, Project 2025  and wars abroad including the genocide in Gaza, US war on Lebanon and Iran put the struggle here in a global context and learning from our history is critical.
This annual commemoration in Minneapolis is important for all workers in the United States and we need to learn the lessons in Minneapolis for today.
