Dear LaborFest Supporters,
LaborFest 2020 takes place in a new world. The Corona virus COVID-19 has not only killed over one hundred thousand in the U.S., and hundreds of thousands around the world, it has laid bare the massive failure of our public health system. When healthcare workers cannot get PPE to protect themselves, their patients, families, and the public, we are in a healthcare emergency. It also has hit Black and Latino workers is the heaviest.
The systemic racism which has always existed now in the open and our privately run healthcare system is incapable of dealing with millions of workers unemployed in California and 46 million in the United States. We are in a massive depression which threatens all working people and our future.
The pandemic is also being used to destroy unionized jobs and make the gig economy the only future for working people. Union-busting Amazon’s expansion is destroying many jobs throughout our economy. LaborFest will cover the fight for health and safety on the job and the defense of front-line workers and whistle-blowers who speak out for their health and safety rights.
Because of COVID-19, this year’s LaborFest is unable to print our annual program schedule booklet. The schedule will only be available on our website: www.laborfest.net.
Because of the limitations on social gatherings, many events will be done virtually by using Zoom and other applications. The schedule will be subject to change, so please check our web site prior to each event.
For those events scheduled to use Zoom, you can participate in the discussion by registration. If you wish to participate in discussions, please sign-up when the information is uploaded to the website.
You can also view the events on Facebook and other social media platforms without signing in; the link will be uploaded as soon as we get the information on each event.
This year is quite a challenge for all of us to go through as the presence of the COVID-19 virus creates a difficult and dangerous situation. We hope everything goes well with all of you and your families, and we hope to see you soon either with Zoom or in person.
Since the pandemic started, contributions to LaborFest have declined dramatically, so your donation is welcomed.
In Solidarity,
