Charters, Co-locations & Privatization of Public Schools

July 27, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

FREE

As a result of Proposition 39 written by billionaire Reed Hastings who owns Netflix, rooms and other facilities are being grabbed for charter schools, and co-locations are helping to wreck public schools throughout the state. Unfortunately it was also supported by the CTA and CFT.

The massive teacher strike wave last year and this year is an historic step forward and these mass worker actions have engaged the community and all working people but they are not enough.
There needs to be an organized campaign to stop bullying, retaliation and firing of strong union activists and in some cases flipping schools into charters.
Workplace bullying and programs like Peer Assisted Review PAR are being used at the BUSD, SFUSD and LAUSD p get rid of African American, Latino and senior teachers.

There also has to be the repeal of the California Charter School law to stop all public funding of charter schools.
This year, $7 billion in the California school bond construction initiative will start flowing into a massive construction of new non-union charter schools throughout the state further taking students away from public schools which are being starved for funding as charters bleed public schools and also undermine Cal-STRS for all public school teachers.

This educational conference will look at the history of charters, how they are destroying public education and what teachers, parents and communities are doing to fight back to defend our public school system. We have to stop the cancer now.
