The Long Struggle of Alcatraz Cruises Workers For Union Rights

July 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

Free

(Zoom event)

San Francisco Alcatraz Cruise workers who are members of IBU ILWU are in a struggle for a union contract and went on a one-day unfair labor practice strike on July 13, 2024. They are fighting for enforced long hours that threatens their health and safety and for prevailing wages with other ferry boat workers.

The company which has a contract with the US Park Service has been allowed by the US government to flagrantly violate labor laws. There have also been previous attempts to unionize the ferry which have been busted by the company.

For this one-day strike, the company brought in replacement workers or scabs from throughout other facilities they run around the country.

Terry MacRae, the CEO of Hornblower which owns Alcatraz Cruises has a long history of union busting, racism and terrorism against workers who want a union. He has fought unionization in New York City and other ports around the country.

This forum will talk about their issues and how working people can support them.
