It will summarize New Deal efforts to provide decent and affordable public housing and dispel the false binary of YIMBY vs. NIMBY.<br \/>\nThe story of the destruction by University of California at Berkeley of People&#8217;s Park will be presented as an example of the collusion of interests between UC, legislators, and real estate developers\/investors. Local communities have little say in California housing decisions while observing the growing power of real estate investors to sway politicians. Mostly market rate housing is being built with minimal concern for affordability and the rising homelessness rate.
