Book reading by Mitchel Cohen
Last year, Bay Area former Benicia Unified School District groundskeeper Dewayne Johnson won a settlement for his cancer he got as a result of the use of Round Up owned by Monsanto, who was bought by Bayer. This herbicide glyphosate has caused cancer in not just workers but members of our community.
In the trial, evidence was discovered that Monsanto had conspired to keep medical information secret that showed this was a dangerous substance, and Johnson’s likely death will be the result of their negligence for more profits. Cohen looks at the politics behind the pesticide chemical industry, and why it is not being held accountable.
The San Francisco Labor Council this year also passed a resolution calling on the California Attorney General to remove “Round Up” from the shelves in California.
Robert Howard will also join the book event. He was juror number #4 on the Benecia Unified School District groundskeeper Dewayne “Lee” Johnson trial.
