Australian journalist and publisher Julian Assange has been pursued by the US and other governments for WikiLeaks and the exposure of US war crimes in Iraq. The effort to extradite him from Britain to the US according to journalists and their unions around the world is a threat to all journalists. The Pacific Media Workers Guild has called for his freedom as well as the San Francisco Labor Council.
Journalists and supporters of Assange will be celebrating his birthday at the Harry Bridges Plaza and calling for his freedom. Journalists including KPFA’s Frank Sterling and others will be speaking.
